Application Process

Uncommon Schools Troy Prep currently operates three schools. We are free public charter schools serving students in grades K-12. Troy Prep Elementary School feeds into Troy Prep Middle School, and all Middle School students feed into Troy Prep High School.

Please feel free to apply for a Kindergarten through 11th grade seat for your child. Applications will be automatically placed on our waitlist, and you will be notified once a seat becomes available.

The primary entry point into Troy Prep is Kindergarten, and is filled through a random lottery. Students who will be five years old by December 1, 2019 will be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten at Troy Prep for the 2019-2020 school year. The deadline for lottery applications was April 1, 2019.  Any applications received after this date and time are placed on our waiting list in order of receipt.

If your child’s academic trajectory does not continue in a traditional fashion (i.e. is not promoted to the next grade at the end of the school year), please notify the school to ensure your child is on the appropriate grade’s waiting list. Waiting lists numbers shift frequently throughout the year! Please be sure to create an account on SchoolMint or contact the school for status updates on your child’s position on the waiting list.

Troy Prep is free to enroll and attend. Any student whose family is a resident of New York State may apply. Enrollment preference is given to applicants who are eligible for free and reduced price lunch, qualify for English Language Learner services, have a sibling who currently attends Troy Prep, is the child of an employee at our school, or who live in the city of Troy. All students, including those receiving special education and English language learner support, are encouraged to apply.
